Today's tips for finding shorted wires

Let us say your power distribution box you has a circuit breaker that protect a few load example a power window circuit. This circuit could include the relays, switches, timers, controllers, motor and the wires in between. A simple way to check for shorts is to substitute 2 wires and plug it in to the circuit breaker. On the other end of the 2 wires, connect a small 12 volt socket with a bulb in it. When plugged in and there is a short, the bulb lights up, when short stops, the light goes out.

Once you have this set up, you can wiggle the wires, unplug each component of the circuit while watching the bulb and finding the short. You can even make the wires longer so you can see the bulb all the time.
