1999 Volkswagen Beetle AC clutch not engaging: No code

Symptoms:

The compressor clutch won't engage. All fuses checked OK and if power and ground are directly fed to the clutch coil, it will work. There is no code from the ECM (engine computer).

Basic Concept:

The most common cause of this problem is the low/high pressure switch. Garages will normally drain the compressor content and fill it using the specified weight. If not available, try adding freon until the system is full.

Repair Strategy:

Using a wiring diagram, check the pressure switch for power supply. if present, replace the switch after making sure freon is at the right level. Also confirm that there is no ecm code like defective coolant sensor.
